Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Every time the commercial for “Dear John” appears, I reflexively let out what I call a “Twilight Sigh.” Meaning, a very dramatic and teenage hormone-driven sigh sprinkled with a healthy dose of self-mockery. Because how cheesy is this movie going to be? But also, how awesome.

GGG

Breakthrough character from last night’s debut of “Kell on Earth”? Andrew Mukamal, Kelly’s assistant, hired for his bondage jewelry and bondage jewelry alone. Reasons? 1.) Floor length black sequin dress, 2.) The Situation-esque life mantra “GGG” aka GlamGothGrunge, 3.) As if you needed another reason after the first two.

Living Oprah

Oy. Those that know me well know there’s a short list of things that REALLY make me cringe. Ok yes, there is a long list of things that make me cringe ever-so-slightly, but a short list of things that REALLY make me cringe, including: slow turners, minivans, slow-turning minivans, Hermes “H” belts, Anne Hathaway, Crocs and white puffy jackets. I’m adding this new book “Living Oprah” to the list for obvious reasons. It wouldn’t even have crossed my mind if I wasn’t assaulted with advertisements for it every frickin day on the subway. The cover speaks for itself, really. Casual Mary Janes? Oh boy, where to even begin.

Hurt Locker

For anyone who has ever been annoyed by James Cameron (i.e. EVERYONE), the critical success of Kathryn Bigelow's "The Hurt Locker" offers a bit of comfort. I have to admit I had no idea who she was like a month ago. I may have heard of "The Hurt Locker" but I definitely had no plans to see it. And then I was watching like the Critics Choice Awards or something and saw her win best director against (ex-husband) Cameron which I thought was pretty cool. Cool to beat James Cameron at his own game. Cool times a THOUSAND to beat your ex, James Cameron at his own game. I know that's not the point. And she's a successful director in her own right blah blah blah if she wasn't a woman this wouldn't even be an issue. I watched the film last week and you can't help but be moved by it. But either way high five!!! High five.

Rewind

The Grammys were not so painful last night. There were some definite highlights (Pink’s performance being at the top of that list. I mean. COME ON. When it was over, I had one of those “I am about to cry and I’m not exactly sure why” moments and then I totally cried) and also some low points. Ahem, Taylor Swift: as cute and sunny and talented as you are and I feel totally eveeel for saying this, but…album of the year? Jeeze. Moving on to the good parts. I always judge a solid moment based on whether or not I am prompted to rewind the DVR in order to experience it a second time, and that Rewind Grammy goes to Andy Samberg, who was sitting to Beyonce’s right when she began her performance and totally played it up for the camera. He nodded his head as if to say “Awww yeah, you can see me can’t you? And yes, that’s Beyonce to my left. Flanked by a bunch of dudes in rando SWAT team suits, no less.” And then as Beyonce marched forward in all of her Sasha Fierceness he mouthed a simple “YES,” which was amazing. While I’m going to have to subtract a couple of points for the sunglasses inside, it was one of those unexpected moments I kind of live for when it comes to these shows. Well done.
