Girl Scout

I meant to single out John Mulaney's (johnmulaney.com) debut on SNL earlier this week but then I came down with a hacking cough and some sort of debilitating back injury, so my intentions were sidelined. Just want to say that his Girl Scout cookies rant was refreshing, well-written and funny. I saw him do standup about a year ago and he's definitely one to watch. He manages to get the laugh without the shock and awe factor, which is a difficult thing to do. He's also cute as a button!

Jeesh

Was Ryan Cabrera ever culturally relevant? Has he ever actually existed in real life? My sister just sent me a pic of him with the comment: "I feel as if Ryan Cabrera thinks he's fooling everyone by jelling his hair in a sad attempt to making himself taller than 4'9". He ain't foolin' me!" This is an astute observation. Also, he def buys his jewelry at one of those stands in the middle of the mall with, like, crystal pendants and warlock figurines.

Solid Gold

Does Tom's make gold lame shoes? I mean probably not but they should. Because at this point I would buy Tom's to help out with the charity and such, but I would never wear them. They are like the footwear equivalent of a house dress. They are to feet what patchouli is to armpits. That said, the above cost $14.80 on forever21.com, are kinda Tom's-ish and way more chic.

New Crush

I'm annoyed I never got around to seeing "Spring Awakening" with Lea Michelle and Jonathan Groff because boy they have some amazing chemistry on "Glee" and apparently you got to see his bare bum, which HELLO that is not an opportunity to pass up. Bottom line, he is the best part of "Glee" right now next to Sue Sylvester and I have never had guy hair envy, but there is a first time for everything. That is one dreamy mop of wavy curls right there. And in spite of his real life geyness, he manages to pull off the palpable sexual tension bit to the point where I kind of have to take a time out once or twice per epsiode and spritz myself with some Evian water just to get by.

Cuteness

Every young lady should have a trench in a neutral color like taupe or camel. Mine is kinda classic and looks like Burberry (isn't!!!) but I'm loving the more updated/feminine style from Looking At Stars ($68, urbanoutfitters.com). It's younger, a bit flirty and doesn't cost more than your rent.

Approval

I'm reading New York Magazine's (www.nymag.com) current "Approval Matrix" and just thinking about how it kinda sucks to end up on the "despicable" side of the matrix. I mean, who really wants to be deemed despicable, no less by a bunch of hipstery edity pseudo-intellectual types at a self-important magazine? Also got to thinking: if you're going to be despicable, DEFINITELY better to be in the "lowbrow" section of the matrix, no? Because it's not like you came out of the box aiming for brilliance. You're lowbrow to begin with, so despicable is kind of the point. On the other hand, the peeps in the highbrow/despicable section...better luck next time?

Stefon!

My posts are going to be really short and sweet today because I am deathly ill, but Bill Hader's "Stefon" was the best part about SNL on Saturday: http://www.hulu.com/watch/144710/saturday-night-live-update-stefon. Always love when these veteran comics [justifiably] get the church giggles on air.

Part Deux

My friend JZ who has known me since the 8th grade and whose sense of humor is probably even more screwy/sardonic than my own if possible, sent me this site over the weekend. Amazing! http://lesbianswholooklikejustinbieber.tumblr.com/
